I don't know many diets you've been through, but let me tell you, if you don't have the right mindset, chances are you're not going to succeed. In fact, if you're like most people, your experience will fit a very familiar pattern. First, you're all excited about the diet and sure enough, you follow the directions very closely.

Thanks to your careful dietary guidelines, and your eager compliance, you start losing a lot of pounds. So far so good, right? This keeps up for maybe a few more days or even a few more weeks. But sooner or later, the pounds start coming back.

Next, things go from bad to worse. You start gaining more weight than when you began your diet. Isn't the whole point of going on a diet to lose weight? Sadly, most diets are gateways, believe it or not, to additional weight; talk about a frustrating situation.

The reason why people go through this all too familiar tragic pattern is because they don't have the right mindset. It doesn't matter whether you are trying to adopt the keto diet, the paleo diet, the Atkins diet, the Ornish, or any other loss program, without the right mindset, you are playing the game to lose.

At the very least, you should adopt three basic mindsets that will ensure keto diet success.

Mindset #1 - Assume that you can do it

It's very easy to get excited about the testimonials included in many diet books. You look at the before-and-after pictures and you and you get all pumped up. Please understand that a lot of those pictures are exaggerated. In fact, a lot of books that are very shady even use photoshopped pictures.

I know it's shocking. I know that it's hard to believe that people would actually do that, but they do. So a little bit of skepticism goes a long way. Still, don't just focus on the fact that the diet can work for other people. Instead, wrap your mind around the possibility that the diet can actually work for you.

That's right, you personally, individually. If you can't understand that, and if you can't accept the likelihood of a certain weight-loss program waiting for you, then you're making things much harder on yourself. It's like trying to play basketball and trying to put the ball through the hoop.

If in the back of your head you're saying to yourself, "Other people can shoot really well, but not me," what do you think will happen? You're shooting accuracy will go down. You're sabotaging yourself. You're making things unnecessarily harder on yourself.

This is why it's really important to assume that you can achieve success with the keto diet. Not the case study pictures, not the people giving testimonials, we are talking about you. If you can't make this assumption, then it's going to be a rough road ahead for you.

Mindset #2 - Begin with what you have

One common reason why people fail with diets is because they think that they have to transform into a completely different person. Alternatively, they believe that their circumstances or their situations need to change so dramatically so as to ensure success.

When people think along these lines, they're basically just giving themselves excuses for either not trying, or for expecting bad results. Believe me, I can understand why people do this. If you have been let down by diet after diet, it's very easy to become jaded.

In fact, in many cases, it's very easy to expect failure. After all, you've gone through the familiar process of initially losing weight, and then getting it all back. It becomes an old story, and it's only a matter of time until your heart gets broken again.

This is why you think that you should change everything that you can possibly change, to lay the groundwork for ultimate success. Again, you're making things unnecessarily harder on yourself. It doesn't have to be like this. You don't have to move heaven and earth to create optimal conditions.

You know why? Conditions are never perfect. There will never be a time when your circumstances will be just right for you to ensure success. You're going to have to take that risk. You're going to have to begin with what you have.

It doesn't matter what discipline level you have. It doesn't matter what else is going on in your life. It doesn't matter whether you feel good about yourself. All that matters is that you are ready, willing and able to begin with what you have and assume that this will work for you.

Mindset #3 - Enjoy your food according to rules you choose

Another key "pillar" for keto diet success involves the issue of control. A lot of people fail with diets because they think that they are putting some sort of dietary straitjacket on themselves. This is not some sort of situation where you feel that you are denying yourself. Instead, the keto diet should be a celebration of taste. Unfortunately, such long-term thinking is not rewarded by the modern world. We want the best the world has to offer right here, right now. That's how much of a rush we're in, not surprisingly, we believe in a mindset that the more we have, the more valuable our lives become.

We have completely erased the wall between value and price. We size each other up based on how much stuff or rights to stuff we have. We create this mental hierarchy and people with the most things are at the top. In the Western Hemisphere, a significant amount of people kill themselves every single year because of this mindset.

This is quite shocking because they are all provided for, they are not starving in the streets, and they have more than enough to eat. People are eating and living better now than ever in history, yet people are still killing themselves. This is not only about official suicides. There are other ways to measure suicide.

Other ways people kill themselves are through drunk driving, drug abuse, and accidental overdose. The mindset of the more stuff you have, doesn't necessarily mean the more you've become. These are two totally different things and two totally different tracts of thought. Sadly, modern society teaches us that they are one in the same.

You are worth more than the sum of the stuff that you consume. You are worth more than the status people accord you. It is also a surprise that people live broken and empty lives because they are trapped in this endless mindset spiral of more, more and more.

The more they eat, the hungrier they become. The more they drink, the thirstier they become. The more money they have, the poorer they feel. This applies across the board. Thankfully, there is a way out.

The possible solution

What is the way out? Well, instead of more, more, more; why not focus on a mindset of less, less, less. Learn to let go. Focus on what you already have and learn to love what you already possess instead of beating yourself up desiring stuff you don't currently have. The old Zen Buddhist Maxim quote "less is more", is more relevant now than ever, at least to those of us living in the Western world.

If you believe that your life is missing something or you're living an empty life, you might want to rediscover the concept of wholeness. You are more than just a consumption machine. You are more than just a demographic statistic that is supposed to be marketed to. You are more than your ability to make money. You are more than the status people accord you.

Have you ever sat down and just chilled out for a whole day? I'm not talking about playing a video game or watching stuff on Youtube, but just completely chilling out: possibly outdoors checking out some natural landscape or natural features, sitting down on a bench, watching the sunset. Have you ever done that? If not you are missing out on one aspect of being complete - emotional wholeness.

If you had, and you're completely honest with yourself, don't be surprised if you come to the conclusion that there's something off your life, something doesn't feel right. You can't quite point what it is but you think that there's something missing.

You may be doing well enough at work, bills are getting paid, your mortgage is covered month after month, the kids are doing well enough from school, you can buy whatever you want, your debts are manageable, you rarely freak out when you get your credit card balance at the end of the month, but regardless of these, something seems missing.

You might want to consider emotional wholeness. You have to understand that the sense of contentment is an art. A lot of people think that contentment is some sort of product that can be bought. When we buy stuff that's worth a lot of money, that item is more valuable. If you are able to afford something that other people desire, you must be important enough.

We got so caught up in the outer indicators of value that we have lost sight of value itself. We are so caught up in buying contentment through getting more and more stuff that we confused value with price; possessions with being. Not surprisingly, many of us find ourselves in a situation where the more we buy, the less complete we feel.

It's not suppose to work this way. Wholeness enables you to occupy the moment. There's no need to explain; there's no need to be somebody that you're not; there's no need to make excuses; there's nothing to worry about. The past is the past, the future is yet to happen and here you are, in the moment, enjoying it and being in it.

The problem is we have lost sight of the concept of wholeness, we are so bombarded with so many different signals that throw us off the whole concept of wholeness. We've reached the point where most of us have forgotten the whole idea of wholeness.

Maybe, if we buy enough stuff, contentment and wholeness will come in. Maybe if we live in a big enough place, this will kick in. Again, this is just in the back section of your mind. this is real. This is the kind of emotional treadmill we find ourselves in. The more we buy, the more we consume, the more we burn out.

Invest in the way out

Instead of running yourself ragged on a treadmill, has it occurred to you that maybe, you can make things easier on yourself by just getting off the treadmill? Yes, you're supposed to level up until you breakthrough and get the prize. That's how it's marketed, at least.

3 Tips To Help You Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions

New-Year-Resolution-Goals-Target Although many of us start the New Year full of hope and excitement for making things happen, many of us quickly give up on our goals and wait until the next year to even think about them again. But we set New Year's resolutions for a reason, and that's because we hope they can improve our lives in some way. So if you want to set goals you can keep this year, here are three tips to help you make it happen.

1) Set Realistic Goals That You Really Can Keep

The first place to start is with your goals. Are they realistic? Are they attainable? Are they honestly, honestly something that you can see yourself achieving in the coming year?

By all means, push yourself with New Year's resolutions as a method to work toward your goals, but do it within the limits of what's possible! Planning to work out for 2 hours every single day probably isn't realistic for most people, nor is it realistic to think that you'll cut out all sugar completely if you like your sweet treats.

It's also important to ensure you don't try too many things at once. By all means, plan to improve your guitar playing skills, to get healthier, and to learn a new language, but try focusing on just one goal to begin with. Once you've made the first goal a habit, or reached the milestone you were aiming for, you can move onto the second.

2) Understand The Way You Feel

Although not all our New Year's resolutions are about giving something up, understanding the way you feel about things like overeating, or other habits you may have, is crucial to seeing your goal through to the end. If you're trying to give up drinking, or a certain type of food, understand that cravings come and go like waves, and do the best you can to learn about what triggers your cravings so that you can avoid them.

The same goes with things like exercise. Think about how you feel when you can't be bothered to exercise, and put it off until tomorrow ...  you probably feel like you let yourself down. But when you do exercise, not only are you happy that you're meeting your goal, but you may even get a rush off those endorphins!

3) Reward Yourself, Don't Punish Yourself

We tend to work better when we're working towards certain rewards, rather than avoiding punishments. So decide on some ways to reward yourself for completing goals. Instead of berating yourself and feeling guilty for not doing something, think of how you'll feel and what you'll do when you do something you want to do.

Pick milestones relating to your goals, such as 1 month without a drink, or 5 days of exercising every day, and give yourself something nice as a reward (a new CD, a nice meal etc.) Rewards are far better motivators than fear!
